Without genuine cross-partisan dialogue, and unless we learn how to disagree without being disagreeable, the policy solutions with which we attempt to solve our most complex problems (health care, energy, etc) will fail to harness the collective intelligence of the American people. In order to achieve a better national dialogue, “AthenaBridge” has proposed the use of free software to empower hundreds of teachers and thousands of students at the local level. AthenaBridge is Web 2.0 software that provides structure to make online conversations of all sizes more productive and through conversation maps that visually depict common ground, students will learn to agree and disagree without becoming disagreeable, an essential characteristic of a strong civil society.
