Build a Team
Team building is an important part of any size organization. In the beginning it is wise to set a tone and culture for your group. As your organization grows and continues with it’s mission it is important to maintain and meet goals. Throughout your groups history, you can measure your value by asking “If we weren’t here tomorrow, who would miss us?”

With our generation one of the most effective outreach mechanisms is the internet. Email and instant messenger (IM) are the dominant forms of communication. An outreach email is an email that can be sent to campus and organization listserves to recruit interested people, but be specific in who you target.
Use the internet to your advantage by implementing the following online techniques to build support for your team.
- Effective Emails
- Blogs & Discussion Boards
- Online Listings
Although the internet is a great place to start, there are several traditional outreach techniques that yield great results in the real world as well.
See if you can incorporate some of these traditional outreach methods to achieve even greater results:
- Phone Calls to Individuals & Organizations
- Flyers
Hold Meetings
Democracy is based on the conviction that there are extraordinary possibilities in ordinary people. -Harry Emerson Fosdick
When building your team it is a necessity to reward people for their hard work. One way to say thank you to your friends and colleagues is to solicit the support of a local restaurant, billiards hall, or bowling alley. Introduce yourself to the management and get them to offer a discount to you and members of your team. The discount can be as simple as a complimentary French Fry upon purchase of a hamburger, but it will mean a lot to your teammates. This venue can become your local hangout and can grow to become the youth political hub of your community.
