Summit: Millennial Return on Investment
Young Americans are unaware of the federal government’s long-term debt problems and how it impacts them. This is not because of a lack of information on the subject, but because information entities are failing to reach Millennials—multitasking, tech savvy, social networkers—on their terms.
Gaming for Our Future will create an interactive, web-based video game – U.O.Me. – In which users must pay off their share of the real national debt, $184,000. This game will educate Millennials in a way that they respond to. They do this by making policy choices, such as increasing the retirement age, to reduce the unfunded obligations in entitlement programs and bring down their share of the debt. Players can also make personal choices players, such as getting married, which would double their share of the debt. Finally, there will be a social networking component that will make it easier for players to pay off their share of the debt if they can get friends to agree to policy choices.
