Tim Walberg for Congress
Kent Sholars is Campaign Manager for Tim Walberg for Congress, a top-tier congressional race in Michigan’s 7th District. He leads the campaign’s day-to-day operations including grassroots, communications, and field components.
Prior to running Congressman Walberg’s campaign, Mr. Sholars was a Senior Associate at Dutko Worldwide, one of the largest and most renowned government relations firms in Washington, D.C. He focused his practice within the Government Markets division, where he provided strategic counsel to companies of all sizes on matters related to the public sector acquisition process, including legislative strategy.
Prior to joining Dutko, Mr. Sholars served as the Manager of Legislative and Regulatory Affairs for the Contract Services Association (CSA), the oldest association of government service contractors in the US. While at CSA, he worked in a number of acquisition policy areas including the preservation of the federal public-private partnership program.
Previously, Sholars was a political appointee during both terms of the administration of George W. Bush, serving as the Confidential Assistant to the Controller for the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB). His responsibilities at OMB included working on several “good government” initiatives on the President’s Management Agenda.
In addition to his experience at the federal level, Sholars was previously active in state-wide politics in his native Texas. He served on a committee staff in the Texas Senate during the 78th Texas Legislature as well as in volunteer roles in numerous political campaigns.
Originally from Katy, Texas, Sholars obtained an M.A. (Political Management) with an emphasis in public affairs from the George Washington University’s Graduate School of Political Management. Additionally, he holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Communication Studies from Southwestern University.
