Spread the Word
Press can help your cause gain visibility and support. Concentrate on local press outlets and make some noise in your community. Media likes to cover stories about local people working hard to make a difference. Also, elected officials read local papers to keep their thumb on the pulse of their district. An article in your local daily may be more effective then the NY Times.
What We’ve Learned
The best way to reach out to a media outlet is to highlight the difference that you are making in a local town or community. Effective communication with local press outlets requires designating a press secretary who is articulate and able to focus on a few talking points when speaking to the media. It also requires a comprehensive media list, good relationships with those contacts, and activities that showcase your team’s accomplishments.
