Founder & Managing Partner of Teaching Firms of America—Professional Preparatory Charter School, and recipient of the prestigious Echoing Green Fellowship for Social Entrepreneurs, Rafiq R. Kalam Id-Din II, Esq. received his Bachelors degree in English and African-American Studies, and his Masters degree in Teaching-Secondary English Education from the University of Virginia, where he was an Echols Scholar and Jerome Holland Scholar.

Rafiq went on to graduate from New York University School of Law where he was a Thurgood Marshall Scholar, class representative for the Black Allied Law Student Association, a lead instructor in the High School Law Institute, a legal advocate with the Unemployment Action Center, an Articles Editor with the Law Review, as well as Treasurer and then President of the Student Bar Association. Rafiq was awarded the Vanderbilt Medal for outstanding service to the law school community, and was chosen to deliver the commencement address on behalf of the JD students.
Rafiq begin his career as teacher, with experience spanning pre-school to high school, from traditional classroom instruction to a variety of out-of-school time contexts.  Most recently, Rafiq completed a year-long residency as Operations Manager at La Cima Elementary Charter School in Bedford Stuyvesant Brooklyn. During law school, Rafiq worked as a legal intern for the National Hockey League Enterprises, the National Football League’s Management Council and as a summer associate with the law firm Debevoise & Plimpton LLP.  Rafiq went on to practice corporate law in mergers and acquisitions, securities and capital markets as an associate with the law firm Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP in their New York and Hong Kong offices.  Thereafter, Rafiq served as Executive Director of the AnBryce Foundation, a Washington DC area nonprofit foundation that provides education programs and scholarships to socio-economically disadvantaged students. Rafiq has also served as General Counsel to the Jerome Holland Scholarship Alumni Board, a founder of the Blackout Arts Collective (New York NY), a member of Board of the Directors of the Lowell School (Washington DC), True Potential (New York, NY), and Generation Engage (Washington DC).  Today, Rafiq serves as President of the Black, Latino, Asian and Pacific American Law Alumni Association of NYU Law and a member of the Board of Directors of Mobilize.org.
