Living in many different countries has truly opened up the eyes and mind of high school junior, Dana Shin. Born in Sydney, Australia and raised there for seven years, Dana then moved to Seoul, South Korea, where she attended school for six months not knowing the culture or language that differed from the usual “g’day mate!” Moving to California was equally as exciting, and the further she ventured into the void of each country and its communities unknown, the more she learned about the different voices, culture, and backgrounds that existed within each country, and too often, the difficult issues and barriers that form as a result. Sub-consciously, she began to build a strong sense of acceptance and true love of diversity and is most passionate about issues pertaining to immigration, human relations, and education.

A member of her school’s journalism staff and an aspiring writer, she hopes that her love of reading, writing, and volunteer work through the Humane Society, Rotary, Interact, and various education programs will allow her to join other youth activists in voicing their experiences and beliefs with the power that activists have the strength to penetrate through differences and bring everyone together through the common belief that passion and courage can indeed lead to change being made.
